FIBA U18: Junior D’Tigers to battle Mali for men’s Afrobasket semifinal spot

Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigers will be in action on Thursday night when they take on West African neighbours Mali in the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIBA U18 Afrobasket Championship in Pretoria, South Africa.

The Fubara Onyanabo-led side reached the last eight as one of the two best third-placed teams, finishing third in Group B with five points after beating Uganda in their final group game.

The Junior D’Tigers, who encountered some visa problems which forced them to arrive in South Africa just hours to their opening game, fell to Egypt. They, however, bounced back by beating Angola and Uganda in their remaining two group games.

Meanwhile, Mali, who are yet to drop points, did not suffer a defeat in the group phase, where they finished atop Group A with six points after beating Senegal, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire.

The two teams will face off inside the University of Pretoria’s Rembrandt Hall in South Africa today from 7pm West African Time.
