F1: Norris hails ‘mega’ McLaren car after Singapore GP triumph

Lando Norris described his McLaren car as “mega” after he led from start to finish to win the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The British driver was in a class of his own, finishing over 20 seconds ahead of reigning world champion Max Verstappen and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.

It was the third Grand Prix victory of the season for Norris, who has now cut the gap to Verstappen in the drivers’ championship to 52 points.

It was also McLaren’s fourth win in the last six races that extended their lead over Red Bull Racing at the top of the constructors’ championship to 41 points.

“It was an amazing race – a few too many close calls,” Norris said after the race as per Autosport. “I had a couple of little moments in the middle, but it was well-controlled, I think.

“The car was mega, so I could push. We were flying the whole race and at the end I could just chill. So it was nice.

“It’s still tough. I’m a bit out of breath, but a very fun one.”

In other race results, George Russell (Mercedes) was fourth, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) fifth and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) sixth.

Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) completed the top 10.

The F1 paddock will next head to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin for the United States Grand Prix on October 20.
