Europa League: Ivorian winger Adingra scores in Brighton win; Mbemba and Sarr on target for Marseille

Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra was on target for Brighton and Hove Albion as the Premier League side defeated Ajax 2-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena in the Netherlands.

The 21-year-old rifled the ball into the top corner of the net off a pass from Ansu Fati in the 53rd minute to double the Seagulls lead and ensure they secured their second win in the competition.

Spanish forward of Guinea-Bissau descent Ansu Fati opened the scoring for Roberto De Zerbi’s side inside the first 14 minutes. The Barcelona loanee burst through the middle of the Ajax defense after receiving the ball from Adingra before calmly slotting it past Diant Ramaj in goal for the home team.

Adingra opened his goal account in the Europa League, while Fati got his second of the tournament as Brighton sealed their first-ever away win in Europe to improve to seven points and sit second in Group B.

In the other tie in the group, DR Congo defender Chancel Mbemba and Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr both scored for Marseille in their 2-0 away win over AEK Athens at the Agia Sofia Stadium in Greece.

Mbemba rose highest to nod home Jonathan Clauss’ cross to give Marseille the lead in the 25th minute, while former Watford forward Sarr converted one of the easiest goals he would ever score, tapping into an empty net from close range after brilliant work from French midfielder Jordan Veretout.

The win ensured Marseille remained atop the group with eight points from four games, and they will seal qualification into the knockout rounds if they beat Ajax in their next game at the Stade Velodrome.
