Donyell Malen netted a brace as the Netherlands booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Euro championship after beating Romania 3-0 on Tuesday.
The Borussia Dortmund forward came on as a substitute and scored in the 83rd and 93rd minute, complementing Cody Gakpo’s 20th minute strike in a game which Ronald Koeman’s side had a staggering 23 attempts.
It was Gakpo’s third strike of the tournament and becomes the third Dutch player to score three or more goals at two different major tournaments for the Netherlands, along with Johnny Rep and Dennis Bergkamp.

The Netherlands will play the winner of the remaining round of 16 tie between Turkey and Austria in the quarter final.
