The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have parted ways with head coach Dorival Junior following the heavy 4-1 loss to fierce rivals Argentina in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
The 62-year-old, had been in charge of the national team since January 2024, overseeing a total of 16 games, winning eight, drawing six and losing three.
The Selecao currently sit fourth in the qualifying standings, and despite losing five out of 14 games so far, are still well placed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Brazil are in the midst of their worst-ever World Cup qualifying campaign, with their five losses and 16 goals conceded a record high.
“The Brazilian Football Confederation informs that coach Dorival Jr is no longer in charge of the Brazilian national team,” read a statement.
“The management thanks (Dorival) and wishes him success in continuing his career … the CBF will work to find his replacement.”
