Done Deal: Nigerian forward Dessers joins Rangers on four-year deal

Scotland’s most successful football club, Rangers, have completed the signing of Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the club announced on Thursday.

The move, which is subject to international clearance, will see Dessers move to the Ibrox Stadium from Italian side US Cremonese, where he scored seven goals and provided two assists in 29 games following their relegation from Serie A last season.

The 28-year-old striker became The Gers’ sixth signing of the summer and the second African after Senegal’s Abdallah Sima was signed on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Speaking after signing for Rangers, he said: “I am really happy, it is a big relief to finally be here. There have been some long days and some stressful days, but it is a great feeling to finally be here.

“The history of the club, the fans, the stadium, it’s massive but next to that I look at what is here at this moment.

“I had really good talks with Michael Beale about his plans, the ideas of what he wants on and off the pitch and I thought that could be a really good fit for me and for the team so I am happy to be here,” the Nigerian added.

Dessers joins his ninth club after having had spells in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy. He has played four times for the Nigeria national team, scoring once.

Over his club career, the Belgian-born forward has bagged 111 goals and provided 40 assists and is set to spearhead Michael Beale’s attack for the 2023–24 season as they look to get back to the top of the Scottish top-flight.
