Ivorian Winger Maxwel Cornet has joined Southampton on a season-long loan deal from Premier League rivals West Ham United, Afrosport reports.
The 27-year-old played 37 times for the Hammers after moving to the London Stadium from Burnley in 2022, helping West Ham win the Europa Conference League the following season.
“Maxwel is a very dynamic player and he gives us another exciting dimension to the group,” Southampton manager Russell Martin told club media.
“He’s someone who can be a real threat to the opposition on the pitch and I’m delighted the ownership group and board have been able to get another attacking option in for us.
“He’s really excited to be coming here and I think it’s a move that can bring out the best in him and work really well for both him and us.”
Cornet, who has played 31 times for Ivory Coast, scored just once and provided six assists during his time with West Ham, and he becomes the Southampton’s third deadline day signing following the acquisitions of Scotland winger Ryan Fraser as well as English goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal
