La Liga champions Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City on a two-year contract with an option for a further year.
Despite the fee for the deal not being disclosed, the 32-year-old will undergo his medical tests after Barcelona got approval to register him for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Gundogan will leave City after a successful seven-year career, where he led as captain in the just-concluded 2022–23 campaign, winning the club’s first-ever treble and scoring twice in a 2-1 FA Cup win over City rivals Manchester United, with one of the goals scored after just 12 seconds to become the scorer of the fastest goal in FA Cup final history.
He joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 as the first signing under then-newly-signed head coach Pep Guardiola. The German International went on to make 304 appearances for the Cityzens, scoring 60 goals and providing 40 assists, including some crucial goals for the Manchester-based side.
Gundogan leaves City having won 12 major titles: five Premier League titles, one Champions League, two FA Cup titles, and four Carabao Cups, along with two Community Shields.
The former Nurnberg and Dortmund man finally gets his move to the Catalan giants after reports of a failed transfer in the summer of 2016 due to failure to meet the required medical standards.
Gundogan also reportedly turned down a contract extension offer from City and big money moves from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia to complete his move to Barcelona.
