CHAN 2022: Hosts Algeria announce 28-man squad

Algeria have released the names of their 28-man team for the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on home soil.

The list is made up mostly of players plying their trade for local sides CR Belouizdad and USM Alger, a group that coach Madjid Bougherra has worked with for the past two months.

The Desert Foxes started their last training session on Monday before the competition proper begins on January 13 when they host neighbours Libya in Group A at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in the capital city of Algiers.

They will play a final warm-up match against Ghana at the Miloud-Hadefi Stadium in Oran on Saturday and hope to show some signs of improvement after failing to win in their previous warm-up games against Mauritania and Senegal, both ending in draws.

Bougherra’s charges will also tackle in Ethiopia and Mozambique in a bid to better their fourth-place finish at the 2011 edition which remains their only CHAN outing before now.
