Cameroon keep World Cup hopes alive with draw in six-goal thriller

The Group G clash between Cameroon and Serbia ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Al Janoub Stadium on Monday morning.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana was dropped from the crucial game following reports of a clash with head coach Rigobert Song who made two changes to his starting XI: goalkeeper Devis Epassy and midfielder Pierre Kunde replaced the duo of Andre Onana and Samuel Oum Gouet.

The Indomitable Lions got off to a brilliant start with a goal in the 29th minute through Jean Castelletto. The Nantes defender reacted quickest at the far post to head Cameroon into the lead from a set piece.

Serbia responded with two quick-fire goals before half-time.

An emphatic header from defender Pavlovic and a brilliant left-footed finish from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, two minutes apart, handed the Eagles a well-deserved lead going into half-time.

After the restart, Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic finished off a beautifully crafted team goal, off a pass from Andrija Zivkovic to give the Serbians a two-goal lead.

Al Nassr striker Vincent Aboubakar put up a super-sub display, and changed the momentum of the tie for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations champions with a goal and an assist within 11 minutes of his introduction.

The 30-year-old finished off a well-timed pass from Castelletto, chipping the ball over the Serbian goalkeeper and he he turned provider for Choupo-Moting to grab the equaliser in the 66th minute.

Cameroon will face Brazil in their last group game on Friday at the Lusail Stadium, while Serbia will lock horns with Switzerland at the Stadium 974.
