Cameroon captain Aboubakar gives brutal assessment of Eto’o as FECAFOOT president

Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar has slammed Samuel Eto’o’s administration as President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) as a negative cycle for the country’s football.

Aboubakar played his first game for the Indomitable Lions in May 2010 and has garnered over 90 appearances under his belt with 36 goals to his name.

The Besiktas striker disclosed that Eto’o has progressive plans for Cameroon football, but the former Barcelona and Inter Milan star is not well surrounded.

Eto’o was elected FECAFOOT President in December 2021 after beating the immediate past president, Mbombo Njoya in a general assembly election.

Aboubakar told Canal+ Sport Africa: “Today we are in a somewhat negative cycle, our president has the will to move things forward, but I find that he is not well surrounded. You have to put competent people around you to achieve great things. things.”

Eto’o guided Cameroon to successfully host the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, but the Indomitable Lions fell short of the target as they finished third in the competition behind Egypt and Senegal.

At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Cameroon failed to make it beyond the group stage despite a famous 1-0 win against Brazil and a thrilling 3-3 draw against Serbia in Qatar.

The women’s team, Indomitable Lionesses, only made it to the quarter-final of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and also failed to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 2-1 loss to Portugal in the inter-confederation play-offs earlier this year.
