BSAFCON 2024: Senegal clinch eighth title with victory over Mauritania

Senegal solidified their reputation as the most successful Beach Soccer African team after defeating neighbours Mauritania 6-1 on Saturday for an eighth Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) title, Afrosport reports.

The Teranga Lions reached the final by defeating hosts Egypt in the semi-final while the Lions of Chinguetti got the better of Morocco to reach their maiden final in their maiden BSAFCON outing.

The Mauritanians were however unable to match the Senegalese who scored three goals apiece in the first two periods.

It also marked the fourth consecutive title for Senegal with their eighth title putting them six clear of the next most successful team in Nigeria with just two titles.

Senegal and Mauritania will be Africa’s representatives at the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles.

Meanwhile, Morocco beat hosts Egypt 4-3 to take home the bronze medal in the third/fourth place playoff.

For the individual awards, Senegal’s Ninou Diatta won the Best Player award in the tournament, Ghana’s Alexander Adjei was the top scorer while Egypt’s Mohamed Elsayed won the Best Goalkeeper award.

Egypt were awarded with the Fair Play Team award.
