Brentford’s 2022-23 Premier League: Best player, best result & top scorer

Brentford’s 2022-23 Premier League: Best player, best result & top scorer

Once upon a time, Brentford were the newbies in the Premier League but they have finished ninth in their second Premier League season.

They managed to avoid the ‘second-season syndrome’ and in the process, beat Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Afrosport reviews the highs and lows of the Bees’ impressive campaign.

Best Player: Ivan Toney

In a season that is considered a success, Ivan Toney was a shining light in Thomas Frank’s team with his contribution of 20 goals and four assists.

With the perfect supporting cast from Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford were a perfectly oiled machine in the attack.

Flop Signing: Keane Lewis-Potter

Arrived from Championship club Hull City in July 2022, the 22-year-old could not justify the £16 million spent for his services.

Lewis-Potter made only three starts in 10 Premier League appearances and he could only register just an assist in the entire 2022-23 campaign.

Best Game: 4-0 home win vs Manchester United

Flashback to August 2022 when the Bees demolished Manchester United 4-nil in the second Premier League game of the season.

Erik ten Hag could not believe his eyes as the Bees stung the Red Devils with four first-half goals and the defeat resuled to be Man United’s third-heaviest away defeat in the Premier League.

Worst Result: 5-1 defeat vs Newcastle

This loss to the Magpies was a match Brentford had no control whatsoever.

The superb performance from Eddie Howes’ side was too much for the visitors to handle at St. James’ Park.

Errors were the order of the day for Brentford as Newcastle pressed on to control and command the flow of the game till the final whistle.

Top Scorer: Ivan Toney

With 20 goals and all-round performances on several occasions, Ivan Toney emerged as the Bees’ top scorer in the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Being a constant source of goals made him one to watch whenever the Bees came to town.
