Arteta ready to help Lewis-Skelly with his disciplinary reputation

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says that the club will help Myles Lewis-Skelly with his disciplinary reputation, Afrosport reports.

The 17-year-old has been a mainstay in the Gunners first team this season following injuries to other full-backs and has gotten a reputation of going to the book, with two red cards to his name, though one was rescinded.

He was close to getting sent off in Arsenal’s 7-1 bashing of PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League in midweek after collecting a yellow card and was ultimately taken off by Arteta after 35 minutes.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester United, the Spanish tactician said:  “It was quite clear that there was a liability there so I didn’t want to take any risks. It was down to me to manage the game.

“A lesson for him [Lewis-Skelly] to learn and we will help and support him.

“He is very intelligent and extremely demanding of himself. He is a perfectionist and he is here to learn.”

Arteta will be taking charge of his 200th league game in charge of Arsenal and reflecting on his time so far in the dugout at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta said: “It’s gone fast. Probably the number one would be sitting here on the first day. There are many others, but the other night was up there with one of the best because of the way we did it. The trophy for sure, the FA Cup.”

Arsenal are second on the Premier League table, 13 points behind Liverpool after 27 games.
