Antony denies domestic violence allegations following axe from Brazil squad

Manchester United winger Antony has denied any wrongdoing over allegations of domestic violence against Gabriela Cavallin, his former girlfriend, which have resulted in him being axed from the Brazil national team ahead of the international break.

Cavallin accused Antony of headbutting her in a hotel back in January which left her with a cut and needing medical treatment. She also accused the 23-year-old of punching her in the chest which damaged one of her breast implants.

The case is now being investigated by police in Sao Paulo and Greater Manchester. The allegations have led to Antony being dropped from the Brazil squad ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru and has been replaced by Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus.

Antony took to Instagram Stories to release a statement proving his innocence.

“I can say with confidence that accusations are false and that the evidence already produced show that I am innocent of the accusations made,” read the statement.

“My relationship with Ms Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offences from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression.

“I trust that the ongoing police investigations will demonstrate the truth about my innocence.”

Antony is the second Manchester United player who has come under the spotlight in recent times for abusive behaviour after Mason Greenwood’s allegation of attempted rape and assault which were ultimately dropped.

The English man has been frozen out of the team ever since and was loaned out to La Liga outfit Getafe after it was agreed to let him spend time away from Old Trafford.

It is also the second consecutive day a Man United Player has made headlines after Jadon Sancho came out to refute manager Eric ten Hag’s claims did not perform at optimum levels in training before the Premier League clash with Arsenal hence was omitted from the squad.
