Al Ahly Sporting Club are dominantly known for their exploits in football but the Egyptian giants are making waves in other sporting events with triumphs in continental events.
Al Ahly SC is an established sports franchise based in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo with teams in Football, Volleyball, Handball, Hockey, Table-Tennis and Basketball.
The Red Devils are not just ruling Egypt, but they are stamping their authority on the continent of Africa.
Al Ahly in Handball
Al Ahly recently clinched their third successive African Handball Super Cup after beating arch-rivals Zamalek 23-21 in the final that took place in Algeria on April 16.
They qualified for the Super Cup as the 2023 African Handball Champions League winners while Zamalek won the African Men’s Handball Cup Winners’ Cup.
Al Ahly’s triumph also guaranteed their qualification for this year’s IHF Men’s Super Globe.
Al Ahly in Volleyball
Al Ahly are the most successful in the elite volleyball club competition organised by the African Volleyball Confederation.
On Tuesday, Al Ahly secured the 2024 African Volleyball Clubs Championship after beating MS Bousalem of Tunisia in three straight sets.
The victory in Cairo was Al Ahly’s 16th crown in the continental tournament will fly Africa’s flag at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship later in the year.
Al Ahly in Basketball
The Red Devils are also dominant on the basketball court, winning a quadruple of Basketball Africa League (BAL), Egyptian Super League, the Egyptian Super Cup and the Egypt Cup in 2023.
At the ongoing Nile Conference of BAL 2024 in Cairo, Al Ahly are the only team yet to lose a game after three matches to sit atop of the Conference.
They made history at the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Singapore as the first Africa club to win a game in the competition’s 33-year history after defeating NBA G League Ignite.

When it comes to football, Al Ahly are the most successful club in Africa with a record of 43 Egyptian Premier League titles, 39 Egypt Cups, 14 Egyptian Super Cups, 11 CAF Champions League titles and a record of eight CAF Super Cups.
The Red Devils under the tutelage of Marcel Koller have only conceded a goal in the CAF Champions League this season and they are yet to lose a match in their hunt for a 12th crown.
They will host TP Mazembe of DR Congo for the second leg of their semi-final match on Friday, April 26 after a goalless draw in Lubumbashi a week ago.
Al Ahly’s table tennis club also have the best two players on the continent in the books.
Omar Assar is the 14th-best table tennis player in the world while Dina Meshref is the best African player in the women’s category.
