AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Libya appoints Al-Hadiri as new head coach for Nigeria’s clash

Libya has appointed Nasser Al-Hadiri as new head coach ahead of their crucial double-header against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the forthcoming matchday three and four encounters in the 2025 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Coach Al-Hadiri will be assisted by Abu Bakr Al-Harak, while Misbah Shangab was appointed goalkeeper trainer.

The announcement, which was made by the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) President Abdul Hakim Al-Shalmani, will see Al-Hadiri succeed former head coach, Milutin Sredojevic, who was dismissed last month following poor results in the opening AFCON 2025 qualifying matches.

The Serbian tactician was shown the exit door after a draw against Rwanda and a defeat to Benin Republic left the Mediterranean Knights bottom of Group D with one point from a possible six.

LFF President Al-Shalmani hinted that Al-Hadiri’s football technicality and previous experience as assistant to former Libya head coach Javier Clemente in 2014 made him a perfect fit for the role.

Al-Hadiri and The Mediterranean Knights face a daunting challenge as they play the Super Eagles next in a double-header.

They will touchdown Nigeria on October 9 before taking on the three-time African champions two days later at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in a matchday three tie, with the reverse fixture taking place four days later in Benina.

Nigeria tops Group D with four points, the Cheetahs of Benin Republic are in second place with three points, Rwanda with two points sits in third place, while Libya are occupy the bottom spot.
