Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has confirmed that Kelechi Iheanacho will be with the team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.
The Leicester City forward is part of the 25-man squad but his involvement has been up in the air as he has been nursing an injury which made him stay back at this club Leicester City.
Peseiro has now put the doubts behind as the Super Eagles gear up to tackle Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in their Group A opener.
“Kelechi will be with us in Cote d’Ivoire. He has finished his treatment at Leicester City,” Peseiro said after Monday’s warm-up friendly loss to Guinea in Dubai.

Stanley Nwabali played against the Guineans and when quizzed if the Chippa United shot stopper would be number one in the Ivory Coast, Peseiro was not affirmative and rather suggested that the team is open to everyone.
“Stanley played but I can’t say for anyone that will be in the first 11 [against Equatorial Guinea]. In that moment I will decide, but in this moment, I say for everybody,” the Portuguese tactician added.
The Super Eagles will also battle Guinea-Bissau and AFCON 2023 hosts Ivory Coast for a place in the the knockout phase.
