Former Arsenal and Ivory Coast defender Emmanuel Eboue has revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen reminds him of his two-time African Footballer of the Year, Dider Drogba.
Drogba was a threat to opposition’s defence during his playing career, and Osimhen followed similar path with his goalscoring for both Nigeria and Napoli in the Serie A.
The 2023 African Footballer of the Year has contributed a goal and an assist for Nigeria at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations and has been a handful for defenders in Ivory Coast.
Ahead of Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Nigeria and Ivory Coast, Eboue warned Ivorian degenders to cautious of Osimhen’s pressing and how he makes games difficult for defenders.
Eboue told France 24: “He reminds me of Drogba, he has a bit of the same style. Drogba gives everything, weighed heavily on the defense, and Osimhen does the same.
“For a defender, playing against this kind of attacker is difficult: you don’t know what he’s going to do. When a defender has the ball, he presses on it all the time.”
