UCL: Wissa scores first-ever European goal in Newcastle win over PSV Eindhoven

Yoane Wissa scored this first-ever European goal as Newcastle United defeated PSV Eindhoven 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The DR Congo forward has gradually been making his way into the Magpies squad after returning from a knee injury that kept him out since the September international break and prevented him from making his debut since his summer transfer deadline day move from Brentford.

He put Newcastle in front after eight minutes having been nicely set up by Joelinton. Wissa turned provider in the 30th minute as he fed Anthony Gordon to put the ball into an empty net.

Harvey Barnes scored the final goal in the 65th minute to hand Newcastle their fourth win in seven Champions League games this season, and leaves them in seventh on the table with one round of fixture in the league phase left to play.


In other Wednesday fixtures, Nigerian foward Victor Osimhen returned to action from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as Galatasaray played a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid while Ademola Lookman came off the bench and provided an assist in Atalanta’s 3-2 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao.

Azerbaijan giants Qarabag recorded a massive 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt while Bayern Munich defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0. Harry Kane scored a brace and missed a penalty while Kim Min-Jae was sent off for two yellow card offences.

Juventus defeated Benfica by the same 2-0 scoreline while Chelsea manageed to beat Cypriot debutants Pafos 1-0, courtesy of Moises Caicedo’s 78th minute strike.

Liverpool and Barcelona recorded big wins away from home as they overcame Olympique Marseille and Slavia Prague 3-0 and 4-2 respectively.
