Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has affirmed once again that he will not change his playing style after the Reds Devils’ 3-0 loss to rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
Goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland (brace) handed City boss Pep Guardiola his 10th derby win while for Amorim, it was his team’s second defeat in four league games this term.
It was also the 16th defeat in 31 league games since Amorim took charge last November, winning just eight games and drawing seven.
The Portuguese tactician came under fire for his tactical setup having struck with a back three. Pundits and fans have called for tactical flexibility but the 40-year-old is not willing to change his methods.
“It’s not a record that you should have in Manchester United. There are a lot of things that you have no idea what happened during these months, but I accept that,” he said.
“But I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. So, we’ll talk about that every game, every game that we lose.
“‘I don’t believe in that, in the system’, or whatever. So, I play my way and I’m going to play my way until I want to change.”
Amorim insisted that United are improving while acknowledging that not having consistent results will make it hard to believe.
“That is normal. That is normal with the results, again, I accept that. I don’t see [it] that way,” he added.
“I see that we are doing better, but then the results don’t show that. Again, I remember last year we play, in the former club [Sporting], we play against City.
“We won 4-1 [in the UEFA Champions League]. It was not near the opportunities, the way we control the game compared to today.
“But in certain moments, we were not better than City. So, I understand that, and it’s hard, and the record says everything, so I understand.”

The former Braga player and head coach concluded by telling the fans he will keep doing his best to improve the team.
“My message is that I’m going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club,” he stated.
“That was always the same message. And then, it’s not my decision, the rest. So, until I’m here, I will do my best. I really want to win games, so I’m suffering more than them.”
With no European or EFL Cup involvement in midweek, United will next face Chelsea at Old Trafford in the league on Saturday.
