New Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou sees exciting times ahead despite starting his reign with a heavy 3-0 away defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The Australian tactician replaced Nuno Espirito Santo during the past week but he was not able to get anything against the fierce rivals of his former club Tottenham Hotspur as goals from Martin Zubimendi (brace) and Viktor Gyokeres, handed Forest back-to-back defeats.
Postecoglou however remains upbeat and did not pin any blame on the players, a number of whom were summer signings and are still acclimatising with the club.
“They’re a good side, but it’s still disappointing when you lose. The second goal took it away from us, but I can’t fault the players in terms of their endeavour and their effort,” he told the club website.
“It’s been a disruptive week for them and they’re human beings, which you have to take into context. We’re disappointed with the outcome, but you can’t fault the effort of the players.
“I wouldn’t say we had control of the game, but the boys were working really hard to keep them away from our goal. Even when we were a goal down we had a few good chances towards the end of the first half. I felt if we could hang in there then we could get a grip on the game, but we conceded the second just after half-time.
“They’re an experienced team and they know how to handle that, so there are lessons in there for us as well.
“From my point of view, what’s important now is to start work towards the next game and have some training sessions with the lads, which will be invaluable for me, the staff and the players themselves.
“We’ve got a number of players who haven’t really kick-started their Forest careers yet, but we have games coming in which they can, and that’s really exciting for me.”
Full focus straight on the next one. 👊
