NBA: Durant, White named Players of the Week for Week 22

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White have been named the NBA Players of the Week for Week 22 of the 2024-25 season, Afrosport reports.

Durant has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the 33rd time in his NBA career, tying Kobe Bryant for the second-most in league history, only behind LeBron James (69).

The 36-year-old, who won his second weekly honours with the Suns and first this season, led Phoenix to a 3-0 week, averaging 27.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game in the week covering 17-23 March.

Durant helped the Suns to victories over the Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Across 59 games this season, he is averaging 26.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists, shooting 52.8% from the floor and 42.6% on 3-pointers.

Durant fended off competition from Deni Avdija (Trail Blazers), Devin Booker (Suns), Luka Doncic (Lakers), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC), and Kawhi Leonard (Clippers) to win the award.

White, meanwhile, wins the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honour for the second time in his career and second consecutive time this season, joining Michael Jordan as the only Bulls player to win two straight Player of the Week laurels.

He led the Bulls to a 3-1 record in the week under review, averaging 30.3 points and 4.0 assists while shooting 55.6% from the field as they defeated the Utah Jazz, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers.

The 25-year-old is the first Eastern Conference player to repeat since Joel Embiid in 2022-23 and is currently averaging 20.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 44.6% from the floor across 65 games this season.

White brushed off teammates Josh Giddey, Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), Paolo Banchero (Magic), Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner (Pacers), Kristaps Porzingis and Jayson Tatum (Celtics), Cade Cunningham (Pistons), Quentin Grimes (76ers), and Trae Young (Hawks) to win the weekly award.
