Carney Chukwuemeka has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the 2024-25 season with the option to buy, Afrosport reports.
The 21-year-old English midfielder of Nigerian heritage signed for the Blues from Aston Villa in in 2022 but has found game time hard to come by, featuring just 32 times, including five this season, and scoring twice.
Chukwuemeka will now go in the footsteps of players like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham as English players to have featured for Dortmund in recent times.
Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl said of the signing: “Carney is an extremely talented box-to-box player who has made a real impression in the Premier League at a young age – it’s no surprise that he has played for all the England youth teams from U17 onwards.
“His dynamism, his attacking mindset and his confidence, combined with his outstanding quality as a footballer, make him an exciting addition to our squad.
“His development had stalled recently in London, but despite not having played regularly we think he offers huge potential and we hope that Carney can rediscover what makes him such a good player here.”
