Gateway United have appointed Festus Allen as new head coach ahead of the 2024-25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, Afrosport reports.
Allen was unveiled on Wednesday at the Dipo Dina stadium, Ijebu Ode, where the Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun State, Wasiu Isiaka, assured that the coach will get the backing of the government.
The commissioner said: “Today, we unveil a new Technical crew to lead us on this transformative journey. You are here to inspire, to build a legacy, and to strengthen the bond with our unique community. This is your opportunity to leave an indelible mark”.
“I assure you of the state government’s support all through your stay as we look forward to a brighter future for our dear state”.
After his unveiling, coach Allen remarked that he is honoured to take up the role and assured that he will bring his A-game to the table.
“I am honoured to take on this role at Gateway United FC,” Allen stated. “My mission is to build a competitive team, foster a strong connection with the fans, and achieve the success this club deserves. Together, we can accomplish great things.”
Allen will be assisted by former Stormers Sports Club head coach and ex-Shooting Stars player Shakiru Lawal, and Emmanuel Bamidele, while Michael Soniregun will serve as goalkeeper trainer.
The 2024-25 NNL campaign is expected to kick off on Saturday, November 30, with 36 participating teams divided into four Conferences of A, B C and D.
Gateway United, however, are drawn in Conference B alongside 10 other clubs, including Sporting Lagos, Solution FC, Osun United, ABS, and Firstbank FC.
The newly-appointed Allen will have to wait a week after Abakiliki FC and Madiba FC kick off the new season as Gateway United will tackle Godswill Akpabio FC.
