NSC announces Enugu State as host of 2025 National Sports Festival

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced Enugu state as hosts for the 23rd National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled to come up in 2026, Afrosport reports.

The NSC reached the decision after its top management including chairman, Shehu Dikko and Director General, Bukola Olopade met on Thursday to review the bids on the table.

The leadership of the National Sports Commission believes the timely announcement will give the Coal City State enough time to prepare adequately for the multi-sports event.

It will be the first time that Enugu state will host the Festival since inception in 1973.

Meanwhile, DG National Sports Commission Bukola Olopade has expressed confidence that Ogun State will host a befitting National Sports Festival in January 2025.

Olopade, who served as Chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the games until his appointment as the NSC DG, said more that 15,000 athletes will take part in the games.

He said the State government, the LOC and other Stakeholders involved are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that successes are recorded at the Gateway Games.

The National Sports Festival is a biennial multi-sports event which brings together thousands of athletes and officials from the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to celebrate sportsmanship, National unity and sporting excellence
