NBA Roundup: Warriors set franchise record in Portland; Suns & Bucks clinch road wins

The Golden State Warriors set a new franchise record with their 35-point win margin over the Portland Trail Blazers following a 139-104 blowout victory in their 2024-25 NBA season opener on Wednesday night.

The seven-time champions marked their largest winning margin in a season opener in franchise as they shot 20 3-pointers at Moda Center to cruise to victory.

Steph Curry, who sat out the entire fourth quarter, finished was a rebound shy of tallying a triple-double as he finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists in the first game of his 16th NBA season. Andrew Wiggins poured in 20 points and shot four 3s; Buddy Hield led Golden State with 22 points and five 3s to go along with Moses Moody’s 15 points off the bench.

Meanwhile, Scott Henderson led Portland with 22 points as a substitute; Jerami Grant got 16; and Deni Avdija and Anfernee Simons ended with 15 points apiece.

Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Clippers season opener at their new Intuit Dome ground did not go as planned as they fell 116-113 to the Phoenix Suns after overtime.

James Harden led the Clippers with 29 points and 12 rebounds in the absence of the injured Kawhi Leonard, while Norman Powell, who scored the first points in their new home, and Ivica Zubac, combined for 38.

Kevin Durant scored a team-high 25 points, Bradley Beal added 24 points, while Devin Booker scored 15 points before his ejection with Jusuf Nurkic and Tyus Jones finishing with 11 apiece as the latter set the record for the most assists (8) in a Suns’ debut without a turnover.

Meanwhile, at the West Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Damian Lillard was in inspired form as his 30 points, nine rebounds, six assists and six 3s powered the Milwaukee Bucks to a 124-109 win over the 76ers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with a 25-point and 14-rebound double-double, adding seven assists as well as shooting 73% from the field.

The Sixers, who were without Paul George and Joel Embiid, were led by Tyrese Maxey’s 25 points as well as 21 points from Kelly Oubre Jr in their losing effort.

In the other games, the Orlando Magic beat the Miami Heat 116-97; the Indiana Pacers beat the Detroit Pistons 115-109; the Cleveland Cavaliers routed the Toronto Raptors 136-106; the Atlanta Hawks beat the Brooklyn Nets 120-116; the Charlotte Hornets beat the Houston Rockets 110-105; the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Chicago Bulls 123-111; and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Utah Jazz 126-124.
