Botswana’s sprint king Letsile Tebogo and Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi have been nominated for the prestigious World Athletics Male Track Athlete of the Year award, Afrosport reports.
Tebogo made history when he became the first African to win a gold medal in the men’s 200 metres.
Wanyonyi, on the other hand, has been a dominant force in the 800 metres, winning the gold medal in Paris.
Both men were nominated alongside American trio Grant Holloway, Noah Lyles and Rai Benjamin and Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

In the female category, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet, both from Kenya, for the Female Track Athlete of the Year award.
Kipyegon won gold in the women’s 1500 metres in Paris, becoming the first woman to win three gold medals in the event while Chebet won the women’s 5000 metres and 10000 metres, becoming the third woman in history to win both events.

They were nominated alongside St Lucia sprint queen Julien Alfred, Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino and American duo Gabby Thomas and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
