2024 U17WWC: Olowookere positive of Flamingos victory over Ecuador

U17 WWC: Nigeria’s Flamingos off to winning start, put four past New Zealand in opener

Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere is confident that his team will be bag all three points when they face Ecuador in their second 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Group A game on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

Nigeria thumped New Zealand 4-1 in their group opener on Wednesday and know that another win against their South American opponents will see them through to the knockout phase.

Olowookere however emphasised that his team are focusing on one match after another but does not want the opportunity to progress slip against the Ecuadorians who defeated the tournament hosts Dominican Republic 2-0 in their own group opener.

“Our tournament strategy is to focus on the next match, take it one match at a time. We need not look farther than the next match, and now, we have Ecuador in our sights,” he said.

“The Ecuadorians have shown, with their defeat of the host nation, that they may be debutants but not a team to be taken for granted.

“The players have recovered well from their opening match victory over New Zealand and we are ready for Ecuador. We know that three points in that game will all but get us into the knock-out stage. It is an opportunity we will not allow to slip out of our hands.”

After the game against Ecuador, the Flamingos will wrap up the group stage against the Dominican Republic.
