Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman named in Serie A Team of the Week

Champions League: Mbappe, Vinicius, Haaland & other players to watch out for

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been named in the Serie A team of the week for the just-concluded matchday four.

The 26-year-old, who missed Atalanta’s first three games of the 2024-25 season due to reports of a possible transfer away from the Bergamo-based club, returned to action with a bang last week.

Lookman scored one and assisted another at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday as Atalanta came back from behind to beat Fiorentina 3-2, helping them get back to winning ways in Serie A.

The Nigerian is joined up front in the Serie A TOTW by Napoli forward Romelu Lukaku, who scored once and provided two assists in their 4-0 thrashing of Cagliari, and Udinese’s French forward Florian Thauvin, who scored twice in their spirited 3-2 comeback win at Parma.

The midfield set up includes Christian Pulisic and Youssouf Fofana (AC Milan), Samuel Iling-Junior (Bologna), and Mateo Zaccagni (Lazio).

Meanwhile, the trio of Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, Theo Hernandez (AC Milan), and Alessandro Buongiorno (Napoli) make up the rearguard, while Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret completes the team.

Lookman will be hoping to replicate this form when Atalanta host Arsenal in their opening game in the new UEFA Champions League season on Thursday, before welcoming newcomers Como to the Gewiss Stadium on Monday, September 23, in their next Serie A fixture.
