Nigerians took to social media to praise Jose Peseiro after he announced that he was leaving his position as Super Eagles coach.
The Portuguese coach confirmed that his contract as Nigeria coach expired on February 29 and he will be seeking a new adventure elsewhere.
Peseiro led Nigeria from May 2022 for 22 months, and his notable achievement was steering the country to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they lost to eventual champions Ivory Coast by 2-1.
A section of the fans expressed frustration with Peseiro’s playing style but they applauded him for his result of 11 wins and four draws in a total of 22 games.
Jose Peseiro overachieved at the AFCON, if we’re being honest. He should be given a contract renewal. WCQ is around the corner.
We don’t want to hear a new coach asking to get to know the team o. NFF, what are you guys doing?! https://t.co/kvxWlDv3cC

Jose Peseiro left Nigeria as a landlord. He has a house in Abuja. @JosePeseiro pic.twitter.com/DKuvCSoPa2

Jose Peseiro did what’s best for himself. He left the stage while the ovation is loudest.

A brilliant coach and wonderful person , the way you embraced the Nigeria culture, and performed even when there was a lot of demotivating factors.
Thank you Jose Peseiro for making Nigerians dream in a dark time.
You are a legend. https://t.co/KMtp8wBCDo— Idubor Aizenosa (Truth is Truth) (@black_Aizenosa) March 1, 2024
I have to admit I didn’t believe in you at first but I watched you do your best at AFCON and brought us joy…although we ultimately didn’t win, you tried. Best of luck in your other endeavors https://t.co/xAFgsGJvWk

We are a Nation of over bloated egos. We overachieved at Ivory Coast, but we keep deceiveing ourselves that we deserved the trophy. Loud, boastful and arrogant; All of us.
He should still get the job. He has earned it. https://t.co/a0RyT5ndWW

Good one for Jose Peseiro, was long disrespected and untrusted on the job. He has made his mark and bows out with his head held high.

The NFF should look to replace Jose Peseiro quickly.
We are in the middle of a World Cup qualifiers, and we have an AFCON next year.
I prefer a foreign coach but the NFF should hire a coach they won’t owe.— Tomiwa Ojo (@10Qmedia) March 1, 2024
Keeping Jose Peseiro would have been the right thing to do! Let’s see who they appoint next!
– Promote Finidi George if they’re going for a Nigerian. He’s coaching in the league & was assistant to Jose
Don’t go near Amunike. He’s entitled & Proud. He will be another Oliseh.
