Jailed Mamoutou Toure re-elected as Mali FA President

Mamoutou Toure has been re-elected as the president of Mali Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) despite being in prison custody for alleged embezzlement of funds.

Toure who has been at the helm of the Malian football governing body since 2019, was re-elected during Tuesday’s general assembly in Bamako after accruing 61 votes from a possible 63, with one invalid vote and one abstention.

The 66-year-old is currently in police custody and awaiting trial after the Malian government accused him of misappropriating public funds during his time as Financial Director in Mali’s National Assembly between 2013 and 2019.

Toure was the only candidate who contested the presidential seat in Tuesday’s election after three potential opponents were deemed ineligible.
