Boniface at the double in Bayer Leverkusen bashing of Borussia Monchengladbach

Victor Boniface scored his first Bundesliga goal for Bayer Leverkusen by netting a brace in their 3-0 bashing of Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

The Nigeria international scored his first competitive goal on his debut in an 8-0 win over Teutonia Ottensen in the first round of the DFB Cup a fortnight ago. It was followed by an assist for Jeremie Frimpong’s goal in Leverkusen’s 3-2 win over RB Leipzig last weekend.

Boniface gave Xabi Alonso’s side the lead in the 18th minute with a header that was nodded to his path by Alex Grimaldo. German-Ivorian centre-back Jonathan Tah doubled Leverkusen’s lead in added time of the first half with a brilliant flick.

Boniface completed the scoring in the 53rd minute after being fed with a sublime pass by Florian Wirtz. He became the first player since Joel Pohjanpalo to score twice in his first two Bundesliga games.

The former Union Saint- Gilloise forward was taken off after 88 minutes and replaced by Gustavo Puerta. He produced a total of 11 shots which was a record for a Leverkusen player since data collection began in 2004-05.

Leverkusen have now recorded two wins from two Bundesliga games so far and will face newly-promoted Darmstadt next Saturday at the BayArena.
