Done Deal: Harry Kane joins Bayern Munich on four-year deal

England international Harry Kane has completed a move to German giants Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year deal reportedly worth around £100 million.

The 30-year-old departs Spurs after about 19 years to join the Bavarians until 2027 in one of the most talked-about deals of the summer transfer window.

Kane, who is expected to make his debut for Bayern on Saturday in their DFL-Supercup clash against RB Leipzig, will don the number 9 jersey formerly won by Polish forward Robert Lewandowski for the six-time European champions.

“I’m very happy to be a part of FC Bayern now,” the Three Lions captain said. “Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career.

“This club is defined by its winning mentality – it feels very good to be here.”

Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern’s CEO said he was delighted at the completion of the move and also revealed the English forward was their number one target from the beginning of the summer window.

“It’s been a long process, but now we’re all the happier that Harry Kane will be wearing the Bayern Munich shirt with immediate effect,” he said. “Harry [Kane] was our absolute dream player right from the start.

“He is a perfect fit for us and the club’s DNA in terms of both football and character. World-class centre forwards have always been an important factor when FC Bayern has celebrated its greatest triumphs, and we’re convinced that Harry Kane will continue this success story. Our fans can look forward to one of the best goalscorers of our time.”

Kane, who started his career at London club Ridgeway Rovers before spells at Arsenal and Watford’s youth systems, joined Tottenham’s academy in 2004. After spending about five years in the youth team, he signed his first professional contract in July 2010 and made his first appearance for the club in 2011 before going on several loan moves to Championship and League One teams.

Since securing a spot in Spurs’ first team setup, the English forward has been one of the most prolific goal scorers in the world, winning the Premier League Golden Boot three times, the Assist King once, and also finishing as the top scorer at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with six goals.

Kane, Tottenham’s all-time top scorer with 280 goals in 435 matches, departs the Premier League as one of the deadliest forwards the league has ever seen, with his 213 league goals placing him second on the all-time scoring list, just 47 behind former Newcastle and Blackburn striker Alan Shearer.

He made his England national team debut in 2015 and has since gone on to make 84 caps, scoring 58 goals in that period to overtake Waye Rooney as the Three Lions top scorer.

His move to Bayern will definitely provide him with the opportunity to win silverware, something that has eluded him all his career, and seeing as the Bavarians are so dominant in the league and also compete on the continental stage, Kane’s first sight of a title might be closer than expected.
