Ndayishimiye beats Nigeria’s Boniface & Orban to Belgium’s Ebony Shoe

Genk midfielder Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye has clinched the 2022-23 Ebony Shoe as the best African player in the Belgium First Division A.

Ndayishimiye, son of former Burundi international – Freddy Ndayishimiye, fended off competition from Nigeria duo Gift Orban and Victor Boniface who play for Gent and Union Saint Gilloise respectively.

In addition to his commanding display in the middle of the park, the 23-year-old contributed 23 assists and eight goals in the 37 matches in the Belgian top-flight so far this campaign.

Ndayishimiye has played for Belgium youth teams across all levels but he is still eligible to play for Burundi at the senior level.

He succeeds Morocco’s Tarik Tissoudali who won the award last year and he is the latest Genk player to win the award after Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu and Tanzania’s Mbwana Samatta

He was followed closely by Boniface who has enjoyed a fine start to life in Belgium with nine goals and seven assists in 35 matches while Gent’s scoring machine Orban who moved to Belgium in January took the third position with 15 goals in 14 matches.
