Ousseni Bouda scored his first goal in Major League Soccer on Sunday but it was not enough as San Jose Earthquakes lost 2-1 to rivals Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Earthquakes came into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Los Angeles FC.
Luchi Gonzalez’s men however started on the back foot with Uruguayan veteran defender Martin Caceres scoring on the hour mark before substitute Dejan Joveljic doubled the Galaxy’s lead in added time.
Bouda’s moment came in the 94th minute when Tommy Thompson’s half-volley fell into his path and he planted the ball into the roof of the net.
The 23-year-old’s professional career began at the Earthquakes, making his debut in 2022 and played nine times. He played for the Stanford Cardinals during his college years between 2019 and 2021, and was named the 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year as the best high school soccer player in the United States. He scored 156 goals in 82 appearances while in high school.

The Earthquakes selected Bouda as their eighth overall pick during the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.
The Ouagadougou-born forward has been capped once for Burkina Faso, playing 27 minutes in a 3-1 win over Eswatini in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last June.
