Semi Ajayi scores first Championship goal in West Brom draw

Semi Ajayi was on the scoresheet but it was not enough as West Bromwich Albion were held to a 2-2 draw by Queens Park Rangers in Easter Monday Championship action at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies are still without a win in their last three league games (D2 L1) and looked like they would finally get the three points when Anglo-Ghanaian Brandon Thomas-Asante gave the home team the lead in the 10th minute from close range via a John Swift free-kick.

The lead was doubled three minutes later thanks to Ajayi who tucked the ball in with consummate ease after latching on to a loose ball from a Swift effort.

It was the Nigeria international’s first Championship goal of the season in just his 16th appearance having had to battle with a ligament injury that saw him miss 15 matches. He was also an unused substitute in nine further games.

It did not take too long for QPR to respond, with Lydon Dykes pulling one back in the 22nd minute before Chris Martin made it 2-2 two minutes into the second half.

The result leaves West Brom in 11th place, five places away from the promotion playoff places with six matches left to play.

For QPR, they are now winless in five Championship games (D1 L4) and are just two points shy of the relegation zone in 20th place.
