Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has acknowledged his growing confidence for the stellar goalscoring season he’s enjoying in the Serie A year.
The Nigeria international was in the scoresheet once again, netting a brace in a 3-0 win at Spezia in Serie A on Sunday.
He has now taken his lead at the top of the goalscorers charts to 16 strikes, four more than compatriot Ademola Lookman of Atalanta. He also becomes just the fourth Napoli player after Luis Vinicio, Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain, to score at least 16 goals in the first 21 Serie A games of the season.
16 – Victor #Osimhen is only the 4th player in Napoli history able to score at least 16 goals in the first 21 Serie A games of the season, after Luis Vinicio (1955/56), Edinson Cavani (2012/13) and Gonzalo Higuaín (2015/16). King.#SpeziaNapoli

Napoli also increased their lead at the top of the table over Inter Milan and as the talk of a first Scudetto in 33 years rings louder, Osimhen believes it is getting more realistic.
“My confidence grows every training session, I’m very happy with the double. Thanks to my teammates and especially to my coach. To repay them, I have to go on the pitch and score,” Osimhen told DAZN.
“As the coach says, we just want to win as many games as possible without looking too far. We have a great chance for the Scudetto.”

Prior to kick-off, Osimhen was seen heading into the stands to hug a young lady. He revealed he shot the ball over the goal post during the pre-game warm-up drills which landed into the stands and hit her face and he felt very sorry for.
“I was making the practice shot, I shot over the goal and there was a lady in the middle of the fans. I think she was looking at her phone, the ball hit her in the face and I felt so sorry, as I didn’t mean to do that. I had to show my appreciation and say sorry for that,” the former Lille man stated.
Napoli’s next task will be a home tie against Cremonese that has two Nigerian players in David Okereke and Cyriel Dessers.
