10 men’s clubs and 12 women’s clubs will feature in the 43rd edition of the African Club Championship that starts from September 30 to October 9 in Tunisia.
The annual competition returns for the first time since 2019 after Covid-19 disrupted the 2020 edition and there was no host for 2021.
The 22 participating teams are drawn from countries namely Egypt (Zamalek and Al Ahly), Tunisia (CF Moknie, Club Africain and Esperance de Tunis), Algeria (MC Alger, Ain Touta, El Biar and Boumerdes), Cameroon (FAP Yaounde men and women; TKC Yaounde), DR Congo (Jeunesse Sportive de Kinshasa), Ivory Coast (Red Star and Habitat HC d’Abobo), Angola (Petro Atletico and Primeiro de Agosto), Benin (Flowers HC men and women), Guinea (USG), Congo (DGSP Brazzaville) and Nigeria (Grasshoppers Owerri).
The men’s and women’s games will go on simultaneously in the cities of Hammamet and Nabeul.
Egypt’s Zamalek and Algeria’s MC Alger are the most decorated men’s teams in the competition history with 12 titles and 11 titles respectively.
Meanwhile, Angola duo Primeiro de Agosto and Petro Atletico dominate the women’s competition with 23 titles between them.
Primeiro de Agosto won the last six editions and Petro Atletico have 17 continental titles in their bag.
