Nigeria’s senior women’s team, the Super Falcons, has been named the Women’s National Team of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards on Monday.
The award ceremony, which was held at the Palais des Congres in Marrakech, Morocco, had a lot of African football stars in attendance, both past and present.
The Super Falcons, nine-time African champions, saw off both Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses and Banyana Banyana of South Africa to win the honours.

In the men’s category, 2023 Africa Cup of Nations winners Ivory Coast were voted the National Team of the Year, edging out Nigeria’s Super Eagles and AFCON 2023 bronze medallist South Africa.
The Elephants won the continent’s biggest prize after defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1 in the final of AFCON 2023 to lift their third African title.

Meanwhile, Senegal international Lamine Camara and Morocco’s Doha El Madani won the Young Player of the Year awards in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, reigning CAF Champions League winners, took home the Men’s Club of the Year award, while reigning CAF Women’s Champions League champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo won the accolade in the women’s category.
