Aitana Bonmati was named women’s player of the year for the second year in a row at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on Monday night, Afrosport reports.
The Barcelona Femeni star was the recipient from last year when she helped Spain to an historic maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup title in Australia and New Zealand.
Bonmati was instrumental in Barca winning the quadruple of the La Liga Femino, UEFA Women’s Champions League, Supercopa de Espana and Copa de la Reina during the 2023-24 season, scoring a total of 19 goals and providing 22 assists.
She won the award ahead of Barca teammates Caroline Graham Hansen and Salma Paralluelo.

Meanwhile, United States manager Emma Hayes won the women’s coach of the year award.
Hayes, who joined the USWNT led the team to the gold medal at Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Brazil in the final.

She also led Chelsea to a record-extending seventh Women’s Super League title during the 2023-24 season after which she ended her 12-year association with the London club.
