Weightlifter Olarinoye appointed into ANOCA board

23-year-old Adenike Adjiat Olarinoye has been appointed into Athlete’s Commission of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).

The Nigerian weightlifter earned the international appointment during the ANOCA forum that took place in the Algerian capital city of Algiers.

ANOCA is the international body that unities the 54 National Olympic Committees of Africa, with headquarters in Abuja.

In July 2022, Olarinoye won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the women’s 55kg weightlifting event and she also set an African record in the women’s clean and jerk category after lifting 116kg at the 2019 African Games in Rabat.

The Nigeria Olympic Committee, in a congratulatory note through its Secretary-General – Tunde Popoola, described the appointment as a testament to Olarinoye’s outstanding achievements for the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation.
