Zirkzee: Huge blow for Bologna as Dutch-Nigerian star suffers injury

Bologna have been dealt a huge blow after announcing that star forward Joshua Zirkzee has suffered a muscle injury.

The 22-year-old Dutch-Nigerian forward was taken off in the Rossoblu’s 1-0 loss at home to Serie A leaders Inter Milan due to some discomfort and was replaced by Argentine teenager Santiago Castro.

Medical tests were carried out on Zirkzee on Monday morning and it was revealed he has suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for up to a month.

“The tests Joshua Zirkzee underwent this morning showed a first-degree injury to his left hamstring, with an expected recovery time of 3-4 weeks,” read a statement on Bologna’s website.

Zirkzee will be a big miss for Bologna as his 10 goals in 27 Serie A games have played a big role in their current position of fourth on the log and are three points clear of their nearest challengers AS Roma.

The former Bayern Munich player has been linked with several top European clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, and AC Milan, however, Bologna are keen to keep him at the Stadio Dall’Ara beyond for the foreseeable future especially as Champions League football is on the horizon.
