Zamalek part ways with ex-Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro

AFCON 2023: ‘My team is sad’ – Peseiro reflects on Super Eagles’ final loss

Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro on Wednesday was sacked by Egyptian giants Zamalek after a run of poor results, Afrosport reports.

Peseiro joined the White Knights on a two-year contract in February, and his sacking comes after Zamalek’s recent 2-2 draw with National Bank in the Egyptian Premier League playoff.

“Zamalek and Jose Peseiro agree to end the relationship by mutual consent. We wish him the best in the future,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

The Portuguese has been under immense pressure since the club’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup last month.

Zamalek, the Confederation Cup holders, were eliminated 1-0 on aggregate by South African club Stellenbosch, and they sit seven points behind league leaders Pyramids FC.

The White Knights won seven times, drew eight and lost twice in 17 matches under Peseiro’s management.
