Xavi Simons completes permanent move to RB Leipzig from PSG

RB Leipzig on Thursday confirmed the signing of Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent deal after an 18-month loan spell at the German club, Afrosport reports.

Simons has signed a contract to remain at Leipzig until 2027 in a deal reportedly worth €81 million plus add-ons and a sell-on clause for PSG.

The 21-year-old initially joined Leipzig on loan from PSG for the 2023-24 season after the French triggered a €6 million buy-back clause in his contract to re-sign him from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

“I’ve always said that I feel extremely at home in Leipzig and that I’m honoured by the appreciation shown towards me by the club,” Simons said.

“Over the coming weeks and months, I will be able to freely pursue our joint aims of qualifying for the Champions League for the seventh straight season, and of reaching the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin – those are the only things that matter right now!”

The Netherlands international spent the whole of last season on loan at Leipzig and returned to the club this campaign on another loan spell.

Xavi Simons has 15 goals and 19 assists in 60 matches across all competitions for Leipzig, including five goals and four assists in 17 matches this season.

He helped Leipzig secure the German Super Cup title in 2023, and the club are currently in the competition’s quarter-finals and are currently fifth in the Bundesliga standings.
