World record holder Tobi Amusan is the notable absence in Nigeria’s 27-athlete list for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Amusan who currently holds the world record in the women’s 100m hurdles was dropped after she was charged by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for anti-doping violations in July.
The Ogun State-born athlete was accused of missing three drug tests in the span of 12 months.
In Amusan’s absence, the quartet of Chukwuma Rosemary, Ofili Favour, Eyakpobeyan Justina and Umukoro Success will represent Nigeria in the women’s 4x100m.
Ese Brume made the shortlist for the Women’s Long Jump alongside Usoro Ruth Amaechi Obiageri Pamela, Anumba Ashley and Onyekwere Chioma will compete in the women’s Discus Throw.
Nigeria will be in contention for the men’s 100m title with the trio of Seye Ogunlewe, Itshekiri Usheoritshe and Ashe Favour meeting the qualification time of 10.00secs.
The three stars will also fly the country’s flag in the men’s 4x100m alongside Alaba Akintola, Fakorede Adekalu, Karlington Anunagba.
National shot-put champion Enekwechi Chukwuebuka will hope to extend his dominance to the global stage as the country’s only representative in the event while Nathaniel Ezekiel will compete in men’s 400m hurdles.
