Wissa: How DR Congo forward’s goal reflected Brentford’s mentality in defeat to Arsenal

Onana: Cameroon goalkeeper makes promise after impressing in Man United win

Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt stated that Yoane Wissa’s goal in their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday evening was a sign of their strong mentality.

Declan Rice put the Gunners in front in the 19th minute but the Bees were level in added time of the first half when Wissa charged down on Aaron Ramsdale’s attempted clearance which dropped into the net. It was the DR Congo forward’s third league goal in row since returning from international duty at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Brentford held on to the 1-1 scoreline until the 86th minute when former Chelsea player Kai Havertz popped up with the winner.

“The goal for Wissa shows how hard we work – we never stop. Arsenal away, we still pressed them high and tried everything to score.” Janelt told the club website.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank also added: “The mentality, the effort, the shift, the personality this team is showing, should make all the Brentford fans unbelievably proud.”

Brentford have won just two of their last nine league games and sit in 15th place, five points away from the relegation zone.
