Wilder in talks for Joshua fight in Saudi Arabia

Malik Scott, trainer of former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder has revealed that negotiations for a multi-fight deal against Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia are currently ongoing.

The Bronze Bomber is known to be welcoming towards a number of bouts this year after his first-round knockout victory over regional multi-heavyweight winner Robert Helenius back in October.

Two-time world champion Anthony Joshua recently overpowered American Jermaine Franklin at the O2 Arena earlier in April following back-to-back defeats to Ukrainian heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Malik confirmed speculations linking Wilder to a fight in Saudi Arabia are true and that his player wants to face AJ or Tyson Fury.

“Saudi Arabia to me is the threshold of opening up what boxing is really about to be on a high stage with an extreme revenue,’ Scott told iFL TV.

“I am on the inside of the meetings. Deontay has me sitting right next to him. I can say that those rumours are true.

“Negotiations are going on and big fights are going to be happening, not just with us, but a lot of top fighters in the heavyweight division in Saudi Arabia.”

When asked about a potential fight with Joshua, the 42-year-old replied: ‘That’s the only fight I want for Deontay.

“If we could get Usyk of course because he’s got the belts. I believe that’s a six-round fight.

‘I’m very, very big on Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua. I believe that it’s good not just for boxing. It’s good for so many reasons. It’s a treat to society.

“I believe that Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua is that type of fight that motivates not just the little kid in the inner city that’s trying to make it to the top to provide for their family, but also the businessman.”

“It’s good for mankind. It would be a real tragedy if this fight doesn’t happen. That’s the fight I’m polling for every time someone asks me what’s next for Deontay.

“We’ll see. Deontay wants to fight. I want to fight. This whole side here wants to fight. We want to see what AJ does now. The ball is kind of in his court. We are ready.”

Joshua has not fought more than once in a year since 2019, but has suggested his next fight could be in December.
