Wayne Rooney parts ways with Plymouth Argyle after seven months

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has left Championship side Plymouth Argyle after being unable to record a victory in the last nine Championship matches, Afrosport reports.

After joining in May on a three-year agreement, Rooney leaves Plymouth as the club languish in the bottom of the Championship standings.

Argyle were defeated 2-0 by Oxford United at the Kassam stadium on Sunday which served as the Englishman’s last game in charge.

The 39-year-old was full of appreciation following his departure as he sends a heartfelt appreciation message to everyone.

A statement from Rooney to Plymouth’s website reads: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of Plymouth, in particular Simon Hallett and Neil Dewsnip who I shared great relationships with.

“Thanks also to all the staff who made me feel welcome and who make the club such a special place, the players and fans for their efforts and support during my time as head coach and I wish them all the best for the future.”

“To the Green Army thanks for making the games at Home Park so special, they are memories that we will share forever.

“I would also like to give a special mention to my coaching staff Kevin Nancekivell, Simon Ireland, Darryl Flahavan and Mike Phelan for their knowledge, dedication, help and support.”

Furthermore, first team coach Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards will be willing step in for Rooney as they host 10th place Bristol City on Wednesday.

Plymouth will now be scalling their options as they seek permanent solutions to their troubling season.
