Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were in inspired form on Sunday as they claimed a 4-1 comeback win against Benin Republic at the ongoing WAFU B U20 Boys Championship in Ghana, Afrosport reports.
Aliyu Zubairu’s side, who settled for a 1-1 draw in their opening game against hosts Ghana, have booked a place in the semi-finals after securing their first win of the tournament at the Prampram Technical Centre.
Benin jumped into the lead in the 23rd courtesy of a brilliant free kick from Junior Olugbade, whose curling effort left goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt helpless.
Nigeria, however, got the equaliser before the halftime break as Abdullahi Mohammed found the back of the net in the 38th minute. The Kwara United striker got his second goal of the tournament after being teed up by Diving Oliseh.
The Flying Eagles came out guns blazing in the second half, scoring three goals to wrap up the win. They took the lead through Anthony Kpangu, who slammed the ball emphatically into the back of the net in the 48th minute.
Imrana Muhammad made it three after finishing off a pass from captain Daniel Bameyi, while Abduljeleel Kamaldeen registered his name on the scoresheet with Nigeria’s fourth goal of the match.

The victory sealed Nigeria’s passage into the next round, Benin must clinch a win against Ghana’s Black Satellites to have a shot at reaching the semi-finals.
